Choice Cuts : Downfall of Gaia - Suffocating In The Swarm of Cranes

Not that we’re not already busy enough with our lives outside of planet sludge, and bringing you a shit ton of news via facebook, not to mention reviews and interviews at The Sludgelord.  I had a light bulb moment, (think despicable me, great movie) and I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be kick ass to bring you a weekly feature whereby, myself (Aaron) and Team Sludgelord, told you what we’re actually listening too and what we deem to be our ‘Choice Cuts of Doom’ every week.

When I say Choice Cuts of Doom, that doesn’t necessarily mean, it will be in inverted commas, Doom music, but it will be heavy music.  The criteria in effect, is that we will have been required to have listened to said album during the week and is likely to be the one with the most repeat listens, a de facto favourite record of the week.  The records can be albums from the past, present or indeed future releases.  You follow.  Heavy music, most repeat listens, any era = Choice Cuts of Doom.  It’s called, Doom, because it just sounds heavy.  Dooooooooooooooooom!!

Too be honest, this feature could stink like a fat shit, but onward and upward.  We like to try new things.  So here is the very first, Choice Cut of Doom.  Can you dig it!  Cheers for readers, you crazy bastards!

Downfall of Gaia – Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes

Downfall of Gaia play a great post/sludge/hardcore/black metal hybrid and I’ve been digging the hell out of this album this week.

Blending elements of Isis-like post-metal with hardcore and black metal’s ferocity, the German band have really stepped into their own with Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes, fully expanding on their Crust roots.

While the album feels a little long-winded at certain points, I’ll be betting the follow up is a masterpiece, definitely ones to watch.

Disturbingly bleak with moments of light, SINTSOC is a fantastic release for fans of Fall of Efrafa, Deafheaven,  Agaloch, Wolves in the Thrones Room et al.  Check out the sample below!
