Bio
DOOMSDAY’s obviously apocalyptic vision has been several years in the making conceptually. An idea birthed between guitarist Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, Chrome Waves, ex-Nachtmystium), guitarist/vocalist Jon Necromancer (Bones, ex-Usurper, ex-Nachtmystium) and drummer Zack Simmons (Goatwhore, ex-Nachtmystium), the trio recruited vocalist Zion Meagher (Anti-Human Thesis, ex-Forest Of Impaled, ex-Nachtmystium) and bassist Bob Fouts (The Gates of Slumber, Chrome Waves, Apostle Of Solitude) to round out the lineup.

After months of writing and planning, their individual schedules finally allowed the five members of DOOMSDAY to amalgamate in the studio to create their debut offering. Converging in their hometown the crew hammered out six tracks in six days in December 2011, the brutally direct hymns engineered by Sanford Parker (Nachtmystium, Twilight, Circle of Animals) and Carl Byers (Coffinworm). The result: a twenty-one minute low-end blackened death-crust assault which melds the members’ cruel musical insight resulting in a depressingly grim crust-influenced blackened musical holocaust as invigorating as it is intimidating

Review

Some vicious, blackened d-beat lunacy is up for review today, a hot export straight outta Chicago and delivered direct to your starving ears, at speed. Which is the only way that Doomsday care for.

This tasty six-tracker opens with 'She Will be the One'. If ever an opening salvo was a statement of intent then this is that salvo. Furious punk attitude and black metal beats give way to vicious hardcore sensibilities. Drummer Zack Simmons is a man possessed here; possibly due to the evil riffs of his cohorts. The track closes with a meaty drop in pace that finishes it off just nicely.

That steady rhythm continues almost instantly within the confines of 'The Punishment'. It's pretty amazing how the vocals are so clear in the mix given the death metal buzz saw tones of the guitars. The only respite (if you can call it that) is when the track does a 180 and decides to be all crust again. Truly impressive.

Padding out the offering is 'Bring Down the Knife' , with a solo that strikes like a tactical warhead, and 'Empty Vessel'. Both are equally filthy and noisy in delectable measure. My favourite track here however is the storming 'Black Judas'. From the get-go this thing is a master class in violence. Seething, writhing and positively swimming in the stuff. It opens at speed and then drops with a malicious intent that could turn most venues into the end of days. If I ever make it to Chicago I want to experience two things: world-class pizza and THIS.
Overall a definite thumbs up. If you're a fan of Wolfbrigade or Disfear then give these gents a spin. You will not be disappointed. So crusty that you may need a shower afterwards though. Sorry about that; don't say I didn't warn you.
